Sideline Conduct

Parents are vital to our organization. Support your child, your coach, and the referees. Encourage your child to respect the referees and coach.
Parents should:

  • Not force an unwilling child to participate in sports.
  • Remember children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment.
  • Teach your child always to play by the rules.
  • Teach your child that hard work and an honest effort are often more important than a victory.
  • Help your child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game. Your child will then be a winner even in defeat.
  • Do not ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or for losing a game.
  • Set a good example. Children learn best by example.
  • Applaud good plays by your team and by the members of the opposing team.
  • Do not publicly question referee judgment and never their honesty.
  • Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches, referees and officials and give them their due respect.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities.

Your child's success or lack of success in sports does not indicate what kind of parent you are. But having an athlete that is coachable, respectful, a great teammate, mentally tough, resilient and tries their best IS a direct reflection of your parenting.

The development and self-esteem of a child is worth more than winning or losing the game!

Dogs/Animals Are Not Permitted at Games or Practices

District VIII and the Manteca Area Soccer League has a no animal policy for all games and practices.  This is for the safety of players and parents, and helps to protect all from liability issues, due to an incident with a pet.  Officials/league representatives will suspend a game, until the animal is removed from the fields.

The only exception, as qualified by law, are REGISTERED 'SERVICE' ANIMALS.   Within this policy, District VIII and the Manteca Area Soccer League allows for parties with registered service dogs/animals, to bring them to the field.  The service animal should be easily identifiable as so and a league official may ask you to provide information on what form of service the animal was trained to provide.

If a party portrays a dog as a service animal, when it is not, they are in violation of state law, and have committed 'service dog fraud'.  Under California law, this is a misdemeanor, with up to six months in jail, and a $1,000 fine.  Any individual found misrepresenting their dog as a service animal will be reported to authorities.  That party's ability to attend future District VIII games/practices will be immediately and permanently revoked.

Emotional Support Animals are not permitted at games or practices.  By law, emotional support animals DO NOT have to be accommodated in public facilities or privately owned stores, conveyances or other venues.

If you are found to have an animal on the sideline, a league official will ask you to remove it immediately.  If the instruction is not followed, the game will be immediately suspended.  If the animal still remains on the sideline, the game will end in a forfeit and the party's ability to attend future events may be revoked.
