Coaches Needed

WE NEED YOU !!

We are preparing for a Fall 2020 soccer season.  We will continue to keep you updated.  It is anticipated that we will enter Stage 4 in the next month or so.  We will keep you updated as we receive information from the State, County, and City of Manteca.

If a Fall 2020 season happens we will be following all the safety protocols necessary and required by the State, County, and local authorities with the safety and health of the children being our first and main concern.  What the new "normal" will look like, will be much different than what you are used to in youth sports and in particular the game of soccer.  Everyone will be given the updated information so all are aware of the new protocols and practices to return to play.

Since we are a volunteer organization, volunteer coaches are needed for the teams and we are hoping that you will step up and volunteer your  help with your child's team.  If you have not ever been involved as a coach, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences.

If interested please email one of the coach coordinators listed below for more information:

You have decided to coach, what happens now?

The first question each of us asked when we decided to coach is WHY?

To give our youth the opportunity to be soccer players.

To develop a life-long interest in soccer and understanding of the sport by all.

To spend quality time with my own child along with making friends with other children and parents.

To HAVE FUN

Whatever your reason, organizing what needs to be done with help makes the season a positive experience for all. Setting your goals to match the players and parents goals are what develops by the end of the season. This is best done by asking the players and parents, 'What do you want to see accomplished?", at the team meeting or beginning of the season. The answers show the players you have a positive outlook towards them. By you taking time to show interest in them it will develop an understanding and mutual trust. To do this, you need to find out three things at the beginning of the season.

What experience do they already have?
What can they handle?
What would they like to accomplish?

Next, you will want to get into the PLAY part of coaching. Your most important task is to develop and lead your team to a successful goal. This is accomplished through play at practice and in gameplay. For most players to play is more important than to win. For youth, the feeling of happiness is what helps them be there at games and at practices. Your goal is to instruct in a way that promotes this. Coaching clinics and many books now address this. Play also promotes motivation.  You will be given guidance during the season with help and training from our Director of Coaching and the Rangers United coaches.

Remember the team you are coaching is influenced by players, parents, officials, and the community as a whole. Positive contributions by everyone will make everyone’s experience a happy one. FUN is what keeps our players and parents involved and returning year after year.

Your team must be represented at each MASL coaches meeting to receive and hear pertinent information that is handed out and discussed.  The coach is responsible for ensuring that all information is relayed to the team. Ensure that your team is always kept up to date by having representation at all meetings.

HAVE A SUCCESSFUL AND FUN SEASON!!!

Coaching Education

Grassroots Coaching Courses
In-person U.S. Soccer Grassroot coaching courses available in the fall 2020 due to the COVID-19 protocols.

Grassroot coaching courses are short coaching courses (4 hours) to give you the fundamental understanding of the "Play - Practice - Play" philosophy.

There are 4 modular courses which consist of 4 v 4, 7 v 7, 9 v 9, and 11 v 11 concepts.  Each coach can take as many of these as they like.  MASL will only be offering in person the 7 v 7, 9 v 9, and the 11 v 11.  If a coach would like to take the 4 v 4 they can do so online.

D License
In-person U.S. Soccer coaching course for the D License will also be offered in the fall of 2020.

In order to take the D License you need to take two of the grassroots courses, in person, with one of them being the 11 v 11 course.

Please check back often for updates as we move forward and the social distancing restrictions for COVID-19 are lifted.
